Privacy Policy
Effective Date: October 10, 2025
Our Approach to Privacy
Here are a few principles that guide our approach to privacy:
- We are thoughtful about the personal information we ask you to provide and the personal information that we collect about you through the operation of our services.
- We store personal information for only as long as we have a reason to keep it.
- We aim to make it as simple as possible for you to control what information is shared publicly, what remains private, and what can be permanently deleted.
- We help protect you from overreaching government demands for your personal information.
- We aim for full transparency on how we gather, use, and share your personal information.
Below is our Privacy Policy, which incorporates and clarifies these principles.
Who We Are and Scope
Pleyr is a product and service operated by AthletiFi Sport Inc. (“AthletiFi”, “we”, “us”). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and protect personal information when you use Pleyr's website, apps, and related services (collectively, the Services). If anything here conflicts with region‑specific notices below, those notices control.
Below we explain how we collect, use, and share information about you, along with the choices that you have with respect to that information.
A. Information We Collect
We collect information about you from three sources: if and when you provide information to us, automatically through operating our Services, and from outside sources like your coaches and teammates. Let's go over the information that we collect.
Information You Provide to Us
It's probably no surprise that we collect information that you provide to us directly. Here are some examples:
Basic account information: We ask for basic information from you in order to set up your account. We require individuals who sign up for a Pleyr account to provide an email address, password, and date of birth for age verification, along with a username or display name — and that's it. You may provide us with more information — like your sports position, team affiliations, and athletic goals — but we don't require that information to create a Pleyr account.
Public profile information: If you have an account with us, we collect the information that you provide for your public profile. For example, your username is part of that public profile, along with any other information you put into your public profile, like a photo, sports position, team affiliations, or biographical information. Your public profile information is just that — public — so please keep that in mind when deciding what information you would like to include.
Player card and content information: You might provide us with information about yourself in your player card design, posts, comments, game log entries, and any media or files you upload. This could include athletic statistics, achievements, photos from games or training, and reflections on your athletic journey.
Team verification information: To verify your team membership and access team features, you may provide us with a photo of yourself wearing your team jersey, along with information about your team, league, and coaching staff. We do not create biometric identifiers for unique identification purposes from these photos. If we ever add features that involve biometric analysis, we will request explicit consent and update this Policy.
Payment and contact information: If you buy something from us — like a premium subscription or physical player cards — you'll provide additional personal and payment information like your name, credit card information, and contact information. We also keep a record of the purchases you've made.
Communications with us: You may also provide us with information when you respond to surveys, communicate with our support team about a question, post in our community forums, or sign up for our newsletter. When you communicate with us via form, email, or otherwise, we store a copy of our communications.
Information We Collect Automatically
We also collect some information automatically:
Log information: Like most online service providers, we collect information that web browsers, mobile devices, and servers typically make available, including the browser type, IP address, unique device identifiers, language preference, referring site, the date and time of access, operating system, and mobile network information. We collect log information when you use our Services — for example, when you create or make changes to your player card or upload content to your profile.
Usage information: We collect information about your usage of our Services. For example, we collect information about the actions that users perform on Pleyr — in other words, who did what and when. We also collect information about what happens when you use our Services, such as page views, features used, interactions with other users' content, and information about your device like screen size and mobile device manufacturer. We use this information to provide our Services to you, get insights on how people use our Services so we can make them better, and understand user engagement patterns.
Location information: We may determine the approximate location of your device from your IP address. We collect and use this information to, for example, help you find nearby teammates or events.
Information from cookies & other technologies: A cookie is a string of information that a website stores on a visitor's computer, and that the visitor's browser provides to the website each time the visitor returns. Pleyr uses cookies and other technologies to help us identify and track visitors, usage, and access preferences for our Services, as well as track and understand the effectiveness of our communications. Where required by law, we obtain consent before using non-essential cookies.
Information We Collect from Other Sources
We may also get information about you from other sources. For example:
Team administrators: If you join a team on Pleyr, we may receive information about you from your coaches or team administrators, such as roster information, your jersey number, or team-related performance statistics.
Third party login: If you create or log in to your Pleyr account through another service like Google, we'll receive associated login information such as your username and email address.
Social sharing services: If you connect your account to a social media service through our sharing features, we may receive information from that service via their authorization procedures.
The information we receive depends on which services you use or authorize and what options are available.
B. How We Use Information
We use information about you to provide our Services, communicate with you, keep our platform safe, and improve our Services. We have additional restrictions on how we use information for users under 18.
Purposes for Using Information
We use information about you for the purposes listed below:
To provide our Services: We use your information to set up and maintain your account, enable player card creation and team features, provide customer support, process payments for premium features, verify user information for platform safety, and power our Team Video Vault and highlight clipping tools.
To ensure quality, maintain safety, and improve our Services: We monitor and analyze how users interact with our Services so we can create new features that help athletes showcase their skills and connect with teammates more effectively. We also use information to detect and prevent abuse, harassment, or other harmful behavior that could impact the safety of our youth-focused community. We may develop automated analysis features (such as performance metrics or highlight detection) using aggregated or de-identified data where feasible.
To communicate with you: We use your information to email you with important account updates, respond to your support requests, and occasionally send you information about new features or opportunities that might interest you. If you don't want to hear from us about promotional matters, you can opt out of marketing communications at any time.
To customize your experience: We use information to personalize your experience by showing you relevant content from teammates and other athletes, suggesting connections with players in your area or sport, and recommending features that might help you achieve your athletic goals.
To protect our Services, our users, and the public: We use information to detect security incidents, protect against malicious or fraudulent activity, comply with our legal obligations, and protect the rights and property of AthletiFi and our users. This may result in us declining a transaction or terminating Services if necessary.
For future data marketplace: We may share aggregated or de-identified information that cannot reasonably be used to identify you as part of a future data marketplace offering insights to sports organizations, researchers, and other partners. Any such data marketplace will use only de-identified data and will require clear, voluntary opt-in for any personal data sharing. Users under 18 will receive enhanced protections and separate consent processes.
Legal Bases for Collecting and Using Information
For those in the European Union, our use of your information is based on the grounds that: (1) the use is necessary to fulfill our commitments to you under our terms of service; (2) the use is necessary for compliance with a legal obligation; (3) the use is necessary to protect your vital interests or those of another person; (4) we have a legitimate interest in using your information to provide and improve our Services; or (5) you have given us your consent.
C. Sharing Your Information
We do not sell your personal information and we do not share it for cross‑context behavioral advertising.
When We Share Information
With your team: When you join a team or mark content as team-visible, we share relevant information with your teammates and coaches. This includes your profile information, team-related statistics, and any content you've designated as shareable with your team.
With service providers: We share information with our service providers who help us operate Pleyr. These include cloud hosting providers, video processing and transcoding services, payment processors, customer support tools, and security services. We require these providers to protect your information and use it only for the services they provide to us.
When required by law: We may share information in response to a subpoena, court order, or other governmental request. For users under 18, we will notify parents or guardians of such requests unless prohibited by law.
To protect rights and safety: We may share information when we believe it's necessary to detect, prevent, or address fraud, security issues, or other illegal activity, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of AthletiFi, our users, or others.
With your consent: We may share information for other purposes when we have your consent. For example, if you choose to participate in a sports research study or if you want us to feature your content in our marketing materials.
Aggregated or de-identified information: We may share information that has been aggregated or de-identified so that it cannot reasonably be used to identify you. For users under 18, we apply enhanced protections and obtain appropriate consent before any such data sharing.
What We Don't Do
We do not sell your personal information to third parties. We do not share your personal contact information, private messages, or other personal details with advertisers, data brokers, or other commercial third parties without your explicit consent.
D. Your Rights and Choices
You have control over your information. You can access, update, delete, and control how your information is used. Users under 18 have enhanced protections and parental involvement.
Accessing and Controlling Your Information
Account information: You can access and update your account information at any time through your account settings. This includes your profile information, privacy settings, and communication preferences.
Your content: You can edit or delete your posts, photos, videos, and other content at any time. When you delete content, it will be removed from public view immediately and fully deleted from our servers within 90 days.
Privacy settings: You can control who can see your profile and content through your privacy settings. You can choose to make your profile visible to everyone, only your teammates, or keep it completely private.
Communication preferences: You can choose what types of emails you receive from us and how other users can contact you through our platform.
Data portability: You can request a copy of your personal information in a portable format. We will provide this within 30 days of your request.
Cookies and tracking: You can manage your preferences for cookies and similar technologies through your browser settings, device controls, and our in-app privacy settings. We also respect Global Privacy Control (GPC) signals where supported.
Account Deletion
You can delete your account at any time through your account settings. For users under 18, we may require parental confirmation for account deletion requests. Upon account deletion, we will delete your personal information within 90 days, except as required for legal or safety purposes.
Rights by Location
For users in the European Union: You have additional rights under GDPR, including the right to object to processing based on legitimate interests, restrict processing in certain circumstances, and lodge a complaint with your supervisory authority.
For users in California and other US states: You have rights under applicable privacy laws, including the right to know what personal information we collect, the right to delete personal information, the right to opt-out of sale or sharing of personal information, and the right to limit use of sensitive personal information. You can exercise these rights through our “Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information” and “Limit the Use of My Sensitive Personal Information” links.
E. How We Protect Your Information
We use industry-standard security measures to protect your information, but no system is 100% secure. We will notify you promptly of any significant data breaches.
We implement appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect your information against unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction. These measures include encryption of data in transit and at rest, regular security audits, access controls that limit employee access to personal information, and secure development practices.
You also play a role in protecting your information. You should choose a strong, unique password, keep your login credentials confidential, log out on shared devices, and report any suspected unauthorized access to your account.
In the event of a data breach that affects your personal information, we will notify you without undue delay and consistent with applicable law. For users under 18, we will also notify their parents or guardians. We will provide clear information about what data was involved and the steps we are taking to address the issue.
F. How Long We Keep Information
We keep information only as long as necessary to provide the Services or meet legal, tax, accounting, and safety obligations.
- Content you delete (videos, clips, player cards, Game Log posts): removed from public view immediately; typically deleted from active systems within 30 days; may persist in encrypted backups that roll off on a ~90‑day cycle.
- Account deletion: we begin processing immediately and generally complete deletion from active systems within 90 days. Certain records (e.g., payments, safety logs) may be retained as required by law or to prevent abuse.
- Logs & diagnostics: typically retained for up to 12 months, then aggregated or deleted.
G. Privacy Rights for Users Under 18
We provide enhanced privacy protections for younger users and involve parents appropriately while respecting teen autonomy.
Age Verification
We verify that all users are at least 13 years old during account creation. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. If we discover that a user is under 13, we will immediately terminate their account and delete their information.
Enhanced Protections for All Minors
Users under 18 receive enhanced privacy protections, including more restrictive default privacy settings, parental notification of account creation and major privacy changes, and enhanced content filtering. We do not share aggregated or de-identified data derived from their information for commercial purposes without appropriate consent. We apply additional restrictions on data processing for advertising and analytics.
Safety features: Robust reporting and blocking tools, restricted direct-messaging pathways, adult-to-teen interactions limited by role and mutual connections, and human review where necessary to protect the community.
Parental Rights and Controls
For users under 18, parents have the right to be notified of account creation and major changes, the ability to request account deletion, and access to a dashboard showing their child's privacy settings. However, parents cannot access private content like messages or personal game log entries, as we believe in respecting teen privacy while providing appropriate oversight.
